President Zhang Lifeng's team was awarded the first prize of the 2022 Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution for their outstanding contributions

  On the occasion of our university's successful convening of ninth Party Congress and in the midst of a thorough campaign to learn and implement Xi Jinping's thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, we are delighted to announce that the "Key Technology and Online Control Software Development and Application of High-Quality Steel Precise Calcium Treatment" project, led by President Zhang Lifeng's team, has won the first prize in the Technical Invention of the 2022 Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution of the Ministry of Education. This is the first time that our university has won this award as the first completing unit.



  

  Science Research Famous Achievement Award in Higher Institution, established by the Ministry of Education, reward the outstanding contributions made by teachers, scientific and technological practitioners, and research organizations of universities in promoting scientific and technological progress. It is an important scientific and technological award, second only to the National Natural Science Award, the National Technology Invention Award, and the National Science and Technology Progress Award. The competition for this award is fierce, and the evaluation is made by peer experts across the country.



 

  President Zhang Lifeng's team has invented a new method for preparing thick-walled seamless calcium lines, proposed a new idea for modifying inclusions in calcium-modified steel using trace calcium elements in ferrosilicon alloy, and developed a big data neural network prediction model and its control software for calcium treatment yield. The team has also addressed the problem of serious splashing and low calcium treatment yield during the calcium treatment process, established a thermodynamic model for predicting the composition of inclusions in calcium-modified steel, and revealed the quantitative relationship between the liquid fraction of oxide inclusions in steel and the probability of nozzle lumping during continuous casting. The precise calcium treatment online control software developed by the team is being used online by multiple domestic steel enterprises, achieving precision calcium treatment in the high-quality steel refining process.

  This award is a vivid practice of our university's deep implementation of the strategy of strengthening the country through education, science and technology, and talent, and of using "hardcore technology" to contribute to China's technological self-reliance. It will inspire our university's scientific and technological practitioners to devote themselves to high-quality scientific research with more innovative spirit and enthusiasm, contributing wisdom and strength to the construction of a high-level applied university.
