On November 2, Corina Adriana Dumitrescu, Rector of Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University in Romania, led a delegation to NCUT. Zhang Lifeng, President of NCUT, met the delegation in Room 302 of Dunpin Building. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and discussed education and training, joint academic development, and laboratory collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI). Chen Qun, Vice President of NCUT, chaired the meeting.
Zhang welcomed the delegation and outlined NCUT's history, academic strengths, approach to education, and international engagement. He noted that NCUT places great importance on practical cooperation with universities in countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The two universities have maintained close ties since signing a cooperation agreement in 2024. In October 2025, Vice President Chen Qun led a delegation to Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University for its 35th anniversary celebrations. During that visit, the universities signed a dual degree agreement, and NCUT helped plan the Romanian university's School of Artificial Intelligence. These steps moved the partnership into implementation. Zhang expressed hope that the latest visit would deepen cooperation in AI and information technology, advance joint education, academic exchanges, and collaborative research, and benefit both universities.
Dumitrescu thanked NCUT for its warm welcome and outlined her university's academic structure, use of digital technology in education, and progress in AI. She noted that NCUT's strengths in engineering and the overlap in the two universities' academic fields offered considerable scope for collaboration. She said her university valued the partnership and would work to implement the agreed initiatives. She looked forward to deeper cooperation across disciplines and at different levels to give faculty and students at both universities more opportunities for international engagement.
At the meeting, the two sides reviewed progress in academic development and international cooperation at their respective universities. They exchanged views on short-term joint programs in AI, reciprocal faculty and student exchanges, sharing research platforms, and preparations for a joint school. They reached agreement on several points and renewed their memorandum of understanding on cooperation.
During the visit, the delegation attended an academic lecture on AI and toured the NCUT History Museum to learn about the university's history and heritage. In the afternoon, the delegation visited the School of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, Brunel London School, the School of Integrated Circuits, and the High-Quality Steel Research Center. The visitors learned about NCUT's laboratories, research achievements, and educational programs, and praised the university's academic strengths and progress in developing its disciplines.
The delegation also included Marja-Liisa Tenhunen, Vice Rector for International Relations, and Radu Danciu, Vice Rector for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. Heads of NCUT's Office of International Affairs and the relevant schools took part in the visit.
