On September 20th, the opening ceremony for the 2023 new students from Brunel London School North China University of Technology was grandly held. Zhang Lifeng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC North China University of Technology Committee and President of NCUT, Andrew Jones, President of Brunel University London, and Wang Jianwen, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC North China University of Technology Committee, Vice President, attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Yang Zhihui, Dean of the Brunel London School.
President Zhang Lifeng delivered an enthusiastic speech, expressing his sincere hopes for the 2023 new students from Brunel London School North China University of Technology. He stated that today is a “Big Day” for Brunel London School. President Andrew Jones and he attended the opening ceremony together, where they extend a warm welcome to the students. He encouraged the students to cherish the unique platform of Sino-foreign cooperation in education, make full use of the English-speaking learning and living environment, and actively learn and speak English. He also urged the students to actively participate in innovative practical activities, improve their practical skills, and enhance their ability to solve engineering problems. He called on the new students to be diligent, work hard, and strive to achieve their dreams.
President Andrew Jones warmly welcomed the new students to join the Brunel University London family. He mentioned that Brunel University has a beautiful campus, advanced teaching and research facilities, and excellent faculty. It has a high academic reputation in the field of engineering sciences and maintains close cooperation with the global industrial sector. The university's international perspective and level of internationalization are at the forefront of global universities. He assured the students that Brunel University will provide comprehensive support for their internationalized learning and academic development, and he wished them success in leveraging the advantages of both institutions and achieve personal development.
The Dean of the College of Engineering, Design, and Physical Sciences at Brunel University London, Stephen Langdon vividly recalled the scenes of attending the opening ceremonies of the previous three years and the arduous journey of promoting the development of the joint-program. He expressed his excitement and satisfaction to be able to welcome the new students face to face at NCUT. He sincerely hoped that the school would continue to develop better and that the students would grow and succeed in their endeavors .
Dr. Matthias Maischak, representing the faculty of Brunel University London, encouraged the students to actively participate in classroom learning, communicate with their teachers, and continuously improve the quality of their education to achieve new successes. Associate Professor Liu Ying, representing the faculty of NCUT, analyzed the overall characteristics and advantages of students of Brunel London School , inspiring the students to fully explore their potential, work hard, and develop in a comprehensive manner.
Dong Chuqi, representing the senior students of the Data Science and Big Data Technology (Sino-foreign joint program) 20-1 class, called on the students to continuously improve their English proficiency and overall capabilities, study each course diligently, and write a splendid youth canvas. Li Mengqi, representing the new students of the Mechanical Design, Manufacture and Automation (Sino-foreign joint program) 23-2 class, urged her fellow students to actively adapt to university life, strive and compete in the arena of Sino-foreign cooperation in education, and create an unforgettable youth chapter together.
After listening to the speeches of the two presidents and the representatives of the faculty and students, the students felt very inspired and motivated. They sent their best wishes for themselves and the the school through the “interactive bullet screen”and the atmosphere at the scene was joyful and lively. After the opening ceremony, the students seized the valuable opportunity to take selfies with their phones, either individually or in groups, eagerly vying to have a photo taken with the two presidents as a keepsake of this unforgettable moment, to share with their families and friends.
Monica Yang, the Director of International Cooperation at Brunel University London, and Maozhen Li, Deputy Dean of Brunel London School from the British side ,Dean from the Chinese side ,along with the heads of the School of Information Science and Technology, School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, and School of Sciences at North China University of Technology, as well as all the faculty members, freshman mentors, and the entire incoming class of 2023 from Brunel London School, attended the opening ceremony.
