On May 25, two undergraduate Chinese-foreign cooperatively run educational programs in Electrical Engineering and Automation and Mechatronic Engineering, jointly proposed by NCUT and the University of Hull in the United Kingdom, were officially approved by China’s Ministry of Education. This marks another major step forward in the University’s international education development, following the approval earlier this month of two new cooperative programs between NCUT and Brunel University of London. With these approvals, NCUT has secured four Ministry of Education-approved Chinese-foreign cooperatively run programs in a short period, laying a solid foundation for its development as a high-level engineering university.
The two newly approved programs draw on the strengths and distinctive disciplines of both universities. Their curricula are designed to promote complementary advantages and interdisciplinary integration. Enrollment will be included in China’s national undergraduate admissions plan, with the first cohort of students expected in 2026. The programs will adopt a “4+0” model. Students who complete the required studies and meet degree-awarding requirements will receive an undergraduate diploma and bachelor’s degree certificate from North China University of Technology, as well as the corresponding bachelor’s degree from the University of Hull.

The University has attached great importance to the development of Chinese-foreign cooperatively run education. University leaders have conducted several special research visits and supervisory meetings to review the progress of program applications, partnership coordination and related work. The launch of the two programs will further strengthen NCUT’s key disciplines, provide students with high-quality educational resources aligned with international standards, enhance the quality and global competitiveness of talent cultivation, and support the University’s efforts to build a high-level and exemplary brand in Chinese-foreign cooperatively run education.
Founded in 1927, the University of Hull is one of the 14 oldest higher education institutions in England. It received the Gold rating, the highest level, in the UK Teaching Excellence Framework, and was placed in the 401–500 band in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025. The University also has strong research performance, with 60% of its research rated as “world-leading” or “internationally excellent” in the UK’s Research Excellence Framework 2021. NCUT will work with the University of Hull to develop the two programs into high-quality Chinese-foreign cooperatively run programs with distinctive strengths.
