On March 25, our university held a symposium for foreign teachers at Brunel London School. Zhang Lifeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of our university, had an open and in-depth exchange with foreign teacher representatives on topics including classroom teaching quality, codes of conduct for teachers and students, and daily life of foreign teachers. The meeting was presided over by Yang Zhihui, Dean of Brunel London School.
During the discussion, Zhang Lifeng shared his frontline teaching experience in classroom instruction, attendance management, examination assessment, and performance grading, and explored effective approaches to optimizing teaching management with foreign teachers.
He pointed out that strict student attendance management is closely linked to classroom efficiency. Incorporating attendance into performance evaluation and adopting a teaching method that combines lectures with practice are routine and effective measures to ensure teaching quality.
Zhang Lifeng proposed that in addition to analyzing factors related to students’ initiative, efforts should also be made proactively on the teaching side. Teachers should explain theoretical content in a simple and in-depth way, increase practical components, and enhance students’ enthusiasm and initiative in exploring science through learning for practice, so as to further improve classroom attendance and teaching effectiveness.
He stressed that foreign teachers must abide by Chinese laws and regulations as well as our university’s relevant rules and systems, and work together with the university to maintain a sound teaching order.
Foreign teachers offered active suggestions on strengthening the development of academic ethics. They proposed further optimizing student evaluation indicators, increasing in-class pop quizzes, and making full use of online course resources through various channels, so as to better motivate students, improve their concentration in learning, and continuously enhance the practical effectiveness of classroom teaching.
Leading members of Brunel London School, representatives of foreign teachers, and relevant staff from the University Office and other departments attended the meeting.
