Vice-Chancellor Mohd Shafry of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Leads Delegation to Visit NCUT

On April 15, a delegation led by Professor Mohd Shafry, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, visited our university. Zhang Qihong, Secretary of our university Party Committee, met with the delegation. Lu Xiaobin, Vice President of our university, presided over the symposium.

Zhang Qihong extended a warm welcome to Vice-Chancellor Mohd Shafry and his delegation. He noted that as one of Malaysia’s top institutions of higher education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia has achieved remarkable results and enjoys worldwide reputation in engineering technology, scientific research and innovation, talent development and other fields.

North China University of Technology adheres to the philosophy of open education and highly values exchanges and cooperation with world-class universities. It stands ready to carry out practical and in-depth cooperation with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

At present, guided by the spirit of “Developing Engineering to Serve the Nation”, our University focuses on its orientation as an application-oriented institution, pursues the development goals of “Two Highs and Two Competencies”, and continuously advances its disciplinary layout of “Four Priorities” and “Four New Fields”, striving to build itself into a high-level university of engineering.

It is hoped that the two universities will deepen communication, build consensus, and work hand in hand in talent cultivation, faculty exchange, scientific research and innovation, so as to translate inter-university cooperation into tangible results and jointly write a new chapter in higher education exchanges and cooperation between China and Malaysia.

Zhang Qihong also invited Mohd Shafry to serve as an Honorary Professor of our university and conduct regular academic exchanges and lectures on campus.

Mohd Shafry expressed his gratitude for our university’s warm reception and stated his readiness to serve as an Honorary Professor and deliver lectures at NCUT. He briefly introduced the history, strength disciplines and research characteristics of Universiti Teklologi Malaysia. He noted that UTM has always attached great importance to cooperation with Chinese universities, hoping that the two sides could leverage their respective strengths in disciplines, scientific research and education, expand cooperation areas, enrich cooperation connotations, and build a more diverse platform for teachers and students of both universities to exchange, learn and conduct research cooperation.

 

The two sides exchanged views on and reached preliminary consensus on plans to sign a memorandum of inter-university cooperation, launch programs including joint talent cultivation, student exchanges and short-term visits, as well as strengthen faculty mutual visits and academic exchanges, and deepen collaborative research.

Officials from the School of Civil Engineering and the Office of International Affairs of our university attended the meeting.

 

Following the discussion, Professor Mohd Shafry, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, delivered a special report entitled “The Technological Evolution and Ethical Imperatives of Digital Imaging” at our University Cultural Hall.

Founded in 1984, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has its main campus in Johor Bahru, Johor State, Malaysia. It currently has more than 30,000 students and approximately 4,800 faculty and staff members. UTM comprises schools including the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, Faculty of Science, Faculty of International Business, and Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.

As one of Malaysia’s five top public universities, UTM ranked 153rd in the 2026 QS World University Rankings and has been rated a QS Five-Star University for consecutive years.
