
On April 29, John Kershaw, Vice President of the University of New Brunswick, visited the University for exchange and discussions. Chen Qun, Vice President of the University, met with the guest delegation.
Chen Qun welcomed John Kershaw and noted that the University of New Brunswick is one of Canada’s historic public universities with a strong reputation in higher education. He highlighted the University’s achievements in talent cultivation and emphasized that the University is actively advancing coordinated development across its campuses while continuing to strengthen emerging disciplines and international engagement. He expressed hope that the two universities would explore cooperation in areas including talent cultivation, faculty exchange, and scientific research, and develop exchange programs beneficial to both institutions.
John Kershaw thanked the University for its warm reception and introduced the history, academic strengths, research areas, and international education initiatives of the University of New Brunswick, particularly its cooperation with Chinese universities. He expressed interest in establishing practical and sustainable cooperation mechanisms, further discussing collaboration in related disciplines, and promoting long-term faculty and student exchanges.
Representatives from the School of Energy Storage Science and Engineering and the Office of International Affairs attended the meeting.
During the visit, John Kershaw toured the Brunel London School at NCUT, the Analysis and Testing Center, and several laboratories related to power electronics and electrical engineering.
Founded in 1785, the University of New Brunswick is one of Canada’s oldest public universities and among the country’s earliest English-language universities. The University has two campuses located in Fredericton and Saint John, with approximately 11,000 students enrolled in more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. It offers programs in engineering, computer science, forestry and environmental management, business, arts, and other fields. Since 2021, the University has been recognized as a five-star university by QS and was ranked among Canada’s top institutions for engineering research quality in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
